– It clings to the muscles of the chest and arm, as well as to the joint bag – explains the physiotherapist. – If there is no balance between them, because one muscle works harder and the other lighter, the silhouette closes, the chest hides in the arms, and the shoulder moves forward.

This misalignment is called shoulder protraction and can do a lot of damage. This is because it stretches the muscles that should pull your shoulders back. As a result, the muscles are not nourished and lose their elasticity – like a rubber that has been stretched for a long time and ceases to be elastic.

– When a muscle works, that is to say tightens and relaxes, blood containing nutrients passes through it. If our shoulders “drop” forward over the years, the constantly stretched muscles in their backs become anemic. This means that they lose their contractile ability and invade the fibrous tissue. And at some point they stop working – explains Piotr Turski. – Over time, the shoulder muscles also hit and we only have the pectoral muscles on which the joint hangs. And because its joint capsule is inherently loose, muscle weakness causes it to stretch, it becomes inflamed, and the joint stops working.

Before the inflammation of the joint capsule occurs, the shoulders let the pain know of their dissatisfaction. Sometimes for months.

– Patients have pain in the shoulder for years and do not know why. They relieve stress, uncomfortable bed, improper positioning of the chair at the desk at work – explains the physiotherapist. – Meanwhile, in 98% of cases the solution is very simple – you need to rebuild the muscles of the spine that pull the shoulder blades back. Regular exercise and straightening your back works wonders and the pain is gone.
