We welcome all our readers to the first issue of the International Journal of Shoulder Surgery (IJSS). IJSS is an open access, online, peer-reviewed publication that aims to publish basic science, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of disorders of the shoulder girdle. The journal is currently indexed with several international databases (SCOPUS, DOAJ, Index Copernicus, Health and Wellness Research Center, Health Reference Center Academic, InfoTrac One File, Expanded Academic ASAP, ProQuest Databases, Genamics Journal Seek, Ulrich’s International Periodical Directory and EBSCO Publishing’s Electronic Databases).

The objective of the journal is dissemination of knowledge of the advances in the field of shoulder surgery to every part of the world; the aim is to encourage and stimulate research in developing countries and to act as a medium of multi-disciplinary interaction amongst physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, anatomists, radiologists, physiotherapists dealing with shoulder disorders and trauma. To achieve this objective, we invite shoulder surgeons to submit original articles, technical notes/tips, case reports, reviews on conservative and surgical (both open and arthroscopic) methods of treatment. In addition, we invite anatomists, radiologists, pain specialists and rehabilitation experts to share their knowledge that may aid the management of the shoulder problems. The inaugural issue of IJSS is a collection of research and review articles by well recognized experts in the field. We express our sincere gratitude to the distinguished members of the advisory board for their support in the publication of this issue.
